Beware of Christmas Tree Fire Hazards

Contact Us

As people get into the holiday spirit, they often decide to buy Christmas trees. Some prefer real trees over artificial. That being said, it is important to make sure that you take safety precautions if you do decide to purchase a real Christmas tree because if not properly taken care of, they may ignite in flames and cause terrible damage to your home and your family. Between 2011 and 2015, the National Fire Protection Association reported that there were an average of 200 home fires each year due to Christmas trees. Now, this should not really stop anyone from purchasing the Christmas tree that they want. It is just important to make yourself aware of the safety precautions to take so your home does not become another statistic.

Some of the Christmas tree safety tips are as follows:

  • Keep your tree away from heat sources like fireplaces, candles, radiators, or heat vents
  • Make sure to keep the base of the tree filled with water so the tree does not dry out and become more susceptible to catching fire
  •  Be sure to turn off the lights on the tree before bed each night and before you leave the house for a while

Stay safe this holiday season!
