Matthew P. Lyons, Esq.
Matthew P. Lyons, Esq. recently completed his term as County Counsel for the County of Gloucester, a position he has held since 2010. Prior to his appointment as County Counsel, Matthew was Assistant County Counsel for three years. From 1993 to 2007, Matthew worked for various law firms specializing in civil defense litigation including automobile negligence, premise liability, civil rights matters, claims against public entities and products liability.
In his position as County Counsel, he managed all legal matters of the County. He was responsible for the preparation of the agenda package considered by the Board of Chosen Freeholders at bi-monthly open public meetings and compliance with the Local Public Contracts Law. He managed the defense of all legal claims brought against the County including Civil Rights claims, employment claims, general liability claims, claims against public officials and Open Public Records claims.
Mr. Lyons served eight (8) years on township council for Washington Township, four of those years as Council President. He served as Mayor from 2009 to 2011. Matthew held additional public service positions including Public Defender for the Borough of Glassboro and Planning Board Solicitor for the Township of Mantua.
Matthew has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Villanova University and a Juris Doctorate from Villanova University School of Law. Mr. Lyons is admitted to practice law in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He and his wife have three children and reside in Washington Township. Matthew enjoys coaching youth sports and spending time at the Jersey Shore in his spare time.
